As with most things in life if you want to feel part of the poker community you need to learn the terms. The original cards flipped into the centre for all to see are flops with any more cards which are flipped and added called the turn and the river. The two players to the left of the dealer are named small blind and big blind, while the cards which are dealt out to each player are known by the name of the hole. If it is you have the best hand available then you have the nuts, if you are known as a dish hen you are perceived as an aggressive player, while you are a labelled a donkey it means you make silly calls and lose plenty of bets.
Playing the best poker hands
There are a any number of poker hands from which you are able to claim victory when you compete. The best hand available is a royal flush while the next best hand is a straight flush. Other hands which may give you the edge over your opponents are a full house and a straight. Although there are a lot of other hands available which are playable, the true sign of a poker great is realising the time to fold and the time to play aggressive.

There are a host of different poker varieties you can play however the top three types of poker to play are Seven Card Stud, Omaha and Texas Hold'em. Texas Hold'em can be played between two-ten card players whereby every player is dealt two cards, which a player uses with the three cards shown on the board to make their best hand available. For Omaha each player receives four cards in which they must make their best hand from any two of those cards and the three on the table. Seven Card Stud includes players being handed seven cards across several rounds of which four are 'window' cards and three are facing down.
Tactics for Poker
The beauty of poker is that novices have the ability to defeat an experienced poker player through luck, aggression or just having a good hand. There are gambling tactics which highlight the difference between being classed as a charlatan or a game player. By appreciating the complexities of the tactics involved it is less likely that an opponent will call your bluff. If you have the nuts then it is often better to go with an aggressive strategy in order to win a larger amount.
